Jaguars are in critical situation in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. We have found that the species have disappeared at the alarming rate of 1 degree of latitued every ten years during the last five decades. See the original published article. That is the reason we launched Conservation Expeditions, to bring people from all over the world to help the species' conservation. The
Jaguar Corridor project begun in 2006 with the participation of international
volunteers. Expeditions are conducted every year to map the current core
areas of distribution of jaguars and access their conservation status.
Since its conception, the project has produced three reports from data
collected with the help of international volunteer groups recruited in
collaboration with Biosphere Expeditions (see latest report).
The
following GIS map display previous and current places where jaguars have
been found in the study area. Current places include the Guaratuba bay
and the 'Cachoeira' reserve owned by the NGO Society for Wildlife Research
and Environmental Education (SPVS).
