Latest news

19th of Mar, 2010 - An operation involving 10 officers of IBAMA (Brazilian environmental agency) that lasted two weeks arrested a land-grabber and stopped illegal and voracious logging opperations in southern Roraima. This was done following Projeto Puma's High Conservation Value Forest' (HCVF) assesment at Vale Verde, a FSC-certified forestry company. We have identified and reported these illegal activities to the national agency, while introducing the companies' environmental model to IBAMA. As a consequence, timber has become scarce in the area, and buyers are now having to purchase certified wood, reports the companies' forest engineer.

5th of Dec, 2009 - Back from the Amazonian rainforest of Peru with many records of jaguar and puma presence. A report is due soon.

19th of Nov, 2009 - Police has dismantled a gang that was illegally harvesting palm heart where Projeto Puma runs its jaguar project.
Illegal harvesting was identified by us as a major cause of habitat deterioration and wildlife decline. See details here (in portuguese only).

4th of Nov, 2009 - High Conservation Value Forest (HCVF) assessment report delivered for a sustainable logging area in Roraima, in the Brazilian Amazons, and accepted by the GFA 's FSC auditing. Report soon to be available

What specialists say about
our expeditions:

Brilliant concept, great implementation and impressive follow up. I know of several similar initiatives that attempt to bring together science and tourism, but they usually start and end at the experience that tourists gain during the trip.
